What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu is a grappling martial art, focused around the objective of creating unfair advantages. Gravity, leverage and angles are all used to maximum effect to decrease the role that strength and size play. And the mat is a lab where endless experimentation goes on. How can my child benefit from Jiu Jitsu?

Life is hard. And to get what you want from it, you have to dig deep and pull out all the potential that you’re capable of. What Jiu Jitsu does for kids is that it encourages them to develop self discipline, increase focus, and self control. And in addition to that, it serves as a vaccination against bullying and stress, while also giving them many tools for defending themselves.

At what age can kids get started?

Our program welcomes kids as young as 4, and our approach is focused on teaching them the simplest elements of the art while helping them develop improved focus, discipline, and coordination.

Can I try a class before enrolling?

Absolutely. In fact, you can try out three classes without any commitment.

How will Brazilian Jiu Jitsu improve my appearance and my health?

People start training for a whole host of reasons, but one thing they quickly discover is that it forces their body to work muscles that they didn’t even know that they had. It’s a fun and demanding workout that can easily help you get in the best shape of your life if you are consistent about training and focused on improvement daily.

Am I to old to train?

Of course not. There are countless individuals that have started in their 50s and 60s. The art is for everyone, and that’s especially true, if you’re smarter than the average bear when it comes to adapting technique to fit your unique attributes.

Do I have to be in shape to start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

No, of course not. Start where you are, and do what you can. If you just make that simple commitment, it won’t be long at all before what you can do expand exponentially to include movements and activities that you once thought impossible.

Does 2nd Gear offer private lessons?

Yes, indeed so. If you have a unconventional schedule or just want to get individual attention, our instructors are available to private and semi-private lessons.
